How do I create an addon domain?

Creating an addon domain involves adding a new domain to your hosting account, allowing you to host multiple websites under a single hosting plan. Here’s a general guide on how to create an addon domain:

  1. Log in to Your Hosting Account: Access your web hosting control panel or dashboard. This is usually provided by your hosting provider and can be accessed through a web browser.
  2. Locate Domain Management or Addon Domains Section: Look for an option related to domain management, addon domains, or something similar. The specific wording may vary depending on your hosting provider.
  3. Choose “Addon Domain” or “Create Addon Domain”: There should be an option to add an addon domain. Click on this option.
  4. Enter the New Domain Details:
    • New Domain: Enter the new domain name without the “http://” or “www.” prefix.
    • Subdomain/FTP Username: This is usually filled in automatically based on the new domain. You can modify it if needed.
    • Document Root: Specify the directory where the files for the new domain will be stored. This is the location on your server where the website’s content will be located.
  5. Set Up FTP Account (Optional): You may have the option to set up an FTP account for the addon domain. This is optional but can be useful if you want to manage the files using FTP.
  6. Create the Addon Domain: Confirm your action, and the system should add the new domain as an addon domain. This process may take a few minutes.
  7. Wait for DNS Propagation: DNS changes may take some time to propagate across the internet. It could take a few hours or up to 48 hours for the new domain to become fully functional.
  8. Test the Addon Domain: After the DNS changes have propagated, open a web browser and enter the addon domain address. It should display the content associated with the new domain.

Keep in mind that the specific steps and terminology may vary based on your hosting provider. If you have trouble finding the option or if you’re unsure about any step, refer to your hosting provider’s documentation or contact their support for assistance. support@hzmfr.com
