How do I configure my Default Address?

Configuring the default email address, also known as the “catch-all” address, is typically done through your hosting provider’s control panel, specifically in the email settings. Here are general steps, but keep in mind that the exact process may vary depending on the hosting provider and the control panel they use (e.g., cPanel, Plesk).

Configure Default Address in cPanel:

  1. Log in to cPanel:
    • Access your cPanel account using the provided login credentials.
  2. Navigate to Email Settings:
    • Look for an “Email” or “Email Accounts” section in cPanel. The exact wording may vary.
  3. Access Default Address Settings:
    • Within the Email section, find an option like “Default Address” or “Default Email Account.”
  4. Choose Catch-All Option:
    • Once in the Default Address settings, you should see an option related to the catch-all address. Select the option that allows you to set up a catch-all address.
  5. Set Default Email Address:
    • Choose whether you want to:
      • Forward all unrouted email to a specific email address.
      • Discard unrouted email (not recommended unless you have a specific reason).
      • Pipe it to a program (advanced option).
  6. Save Changes:
    • After making your selection, save the changes.

Configure Default Address in Plesk:

  1. Log in to Plesk:
    • Log in to your Plesk control panel.
  2. Navigate to Mail Settings:
    • Look for a “Mail” or “Mail Settings” section.
  3. Access Default Address Settings:
    • Within the Mail settings, find an option related to the default or catch-all address.
  4. Choose Catch-All Option:
    • Select the option that allows you to set up a catch-all address.
  5. Set Default Email Address:
    • Choose whether you want to:
      • Forward all unrouted email to a specific email address.
      • Discard unrouted email.
      • Use the default address.
  6. Save Changes:
    • Save your changes to apply the new default address settings.

Important Note:

  • Setting up a catch-all address means that any email sent to your domain but not associated with a specific mailbox will be directed according to your catch-all settings. Be cautious with this setting, as it can lead to receiving a large amount of unwanted emails.

If you’re unsure about the specific steps for your hosting provider, consult their documentation or support resources. Additionally, if you have a custom domain email, your hosting provider’s support team can assist you in configuring the default address.
